Connecting customers with the store

Van Cranenbroek is a retail project in the Netherlands, with a Flutter application for Android and iOS that brings together offers, catalogues, store information and customer communication. The product connects browsing on a phone with visiting a store: customers can follow the company's content, find information to plan a visit and open directions to the location.

My work through Latitudde covered mobile development, native platform integrations and backend services. I also led development and held weekly meetings directly with the client to align requirements, scope and costs. Those conversations were part of building the product, making it possible to discuss what needed to be delivered and how each request fitted into the solution.

Flutter and native platform capabilities

The application uses Flutter to share its interface across Android and iOS. I worked with GetX and GetIt, as well as Firebase and Firestore integrations. State management, access to services and data presentation form the foundation supporting the application's different flows.

I also defined the hybrid Flutter/Kotlin architecture and worked on Android/Kotlin and iOS/Swift integrations. A concrete iOS example is a MethodChannel between Dart and Swift that passes store data to a native map-app selector. It connects an action initiated in Flutter with a platform-specific experience, using the navigation options available on the device.

Maps, locations and navigation

One part of the work was store navigation through deep links carrying queries and coordinates. Beyond displaying an address, the application connects store information with the customer's map application. The recorded Android flow uses a Flutter integration to open the map; on iOS, selecting a map application includes native communication with Swift.

The project also included an interactive SVG map with pins positioned using relative coordinates. This approach associates points of interest with the visual map while keeping their positions tied to the drawing. It required work on both interaction and the relationship between location data and the elements displayed on screen.

Python services behind the mobile experience

I developed Python Google Cloud Functions for communication features. One handled support requests by email and newsletter registration. Another integrated the Facebook API to provide a custom feed in the application, including company posts, follower counts and actions to follow the page.

The Facebook integration included a backend caching strategy. The service decided when to fetch updated content and when to return existing data, sharing the result across application requests. This removed the need for each phone to query the external API directly and reduced unnecessary calls, without requiring a separate implementation in each mobile client.

Communication, delivery and the client relationship

I configured Firebase Cloud Messaging and Firestore for notifications and data management, along with automated CI/CD processes. The work covered the experience inside the application, the services supplying its content and the process of preparing new Android and iOS versions.

Van Cranenbroek was Latitudde's first project in the Netherlands. The client evaluated the product very positively, and it helped open doors for the company in the Dutch market. The links and screenshots above show the published application; the displayed store metrics retain their July 2026 observation date. This case brings together my product, mobile and backend contributions within the team's work.
